Beginner’s Mind

by Seth Jani

Again it comes, like a stone
Caught in the wheel, like a fire
Leveling the valley, overturning
A life’s perceptions.
No monasteries remain,
No stacks of irreplaceable content.
The student learns he must begin
With only a few leaves left to study.
They are first pages, turning over
And over in the empty wind.

Musical composition by Victor David Sandiego
